Begonia amphioxus is native to Sabah, Borneo and was found out by Martin Sands in 1990. It is an exotic begonia with a shrub-like growth habit. The leaves are lance shaped and pointed at both ends. The large maroon spots on the narrow green leaves give it an “other worldly” appearance. The flowers are green in unusual shape. This species needs extra humidity and usually grown in a terrarium.

Secret of success:
 - Prefers bright indirect sunlight. Avoid strong direct sunlight.
- Enjoys damp and well-draining soil.
- Allow soil to slightly dry out in between waterings.
- The plant requires extra humidity in order to thrive.
- Fertilise lightly during the growing season.

Pot diameter: 6cm
Plant height: 18cm (incl. pot height)

Plant Care Tips

Most plants thrive in high humidity — around 80%.

Using a humidifier can help, but there are other ways to increase the moisture in the air near your plants. A small tray containing pebbles and water can boost local humidity as can grouping plants more closely together. Daily misting of the plant’s leaves can help as well. For some plants, such as gardenias and orchids, keeping them in a bathroom or the kitchen (both usually have a higher humidity) can help.
