Euphorbia milii, the crown of thorns, is a species of flowering plant in the spurge family Euphorbiaceae that is native to Madagascar. It is a pretty succulent plant that can bloom almost year-round. The thick, bright green leaves grow along the new stem growth. The true flowers are small and green, surrounded by showy bracts in red, orange, pink, yellow, or white. This slow-growing plant will grow into a shrub reaching 3 to 6 feet tall outdoors. As a houseplant, expect it to reach only about 2 feet in height.

Pot diameter: 15cm
Plant height: 17cm (including pot height)

Secret of success:

☀️: Full to partial sunlight

🌱: Well-draining, aerated potting mix.

🚿: Water when the soil is completely dry. Water thoroughly and allow any excess to drain off. Do not let your plant sit in water for prolonged periods of time

🌡️: Prefers temperature between 18℃ to 30℃.

🌾: Fertilise lightly during the growing season.

⚠️: Keep away from kids and pets (It contains a milky, white sap that can be irritation to the skin and toxic if ingested).

Fresh-Cut Flower Care Tips

Here are some simple tips to help keep fresh cut flowers fresh:

  • Keep them away from sunlight or any heat source.
  • Give the stems a diagonal trim and place them in clean, cool water.
  • Change the water every 2-3 days.
  • Make sure you remove any leaves that are beneath the water line.

See flower prep & care section for more information.

Dried/Preserved Flower Care Tips

  • Always display dried flowers indoors, to keep them protected from the elements.
  • Keep your dried flowers away from direct sunlight, areas of bright light and away from humidity.
  • Sprinkling water or perfume can cause damage
  • Avoid crushing, pressing or folding flower.
  • If the preserved flower is stained by the dust, you can clean the preserved flower with the blower blowing softly 20cm away from the flower.
  • Temperature changes should be avoided to prevent humidity which could affect your blossoms.

Plant Care Tips

Most plants thrive in high humidity — around 80%.

Using a humidifier can help, but there are other ways to increase the moisture in the air near your plants. A small tray containing pebbles and water can boost local humidity as can grouping plants more closely together. Daily misting of the plant’s leaves can help as well. For some plants, such as gardenias and orchids, keeping them in a bathroom or the kitchen (both usually have a higher humidity) can help.
