Portulacaria afra, also known as the elephant bush, elephant’s food, spekboom (in South Africa), or miniature jade. This succulent has thick, brownish-colored stems that have small tender green leaves which give Elephant Bush the appearance of a small jade plant. As the plant matures, its soft-wooded stems get thicker. The elephant bush is a versatile plant that thrives in many different climates, so growing and propagating it is quite easy. Portulacaria Ginseng is a new variety of portulacaria afra that has very thick stem that looks like Ginseng roots.

Secret of success:
: Can grow in partial shade, but ideally, they need at least six hours of sunlight daily. It’s also essential to protect elephant bush plants from intense direct sunshine. Too much sunlight through a window can cause the leaf tips to turn yellow or burn.
: Water only when the soil is dry
🌱: Succulent mix, porous sandy soil that has fast drainage.
💦: Does not need high humidity
🌡️: Prefers temperature between 18℃ to 30℃. Protect them from extreme cold and heat.

Here are some simple tips to help keep fresh cut flowers fresh:
- Keep them away from sunlight or any heat source.
- Give the stems a diagonal trim and place them in clean, cool water.
- Change the water every 2-3 days.
- Make sure you remove any leaves that are beneath the water line.

- IMPORTANT: Dried flowers DO NOT NEED WATER.
- Always display dried flowers indoors, to keep them protected from the elements.
- Keep your dried flowers away from direct sunlight, areas of bright light and away from humidity.
- Sprinkling water or perfume can cause damage
- Avoid crushing, pressing or folding flower.
- If the preserved flower is stained by the dust, you can clean the preserved flower with the blower blowing softly 20cm away from the flower.
- Temperature changes should be avoided to prevent humidity which could affect your blossoms.
Most plants thrive in high humidity — around 80%.
Using a humidifier can help, but there are other ways to increase the moisture in the air near your plants. A small tray containing pebbles and water can boost local humidity as can grouping plants more closely together. Daily misting of the plant’s leaves can help as well. For some plants, such as gardenias and orchids, keeping them in a bathroom or the kitchen (both usually have a higher humidity) can help.
