Spanish moss, commonly knowns as Tillandsia usneoides is an epiphytic (grows on other plants rather in soil) bromeliad that belongs to the Tillandsia genus. It is commonly found hanging from tree branches in tropical and subtropical regions. Despite its name, it is neither a moss nor Spanish but an air plant that absorbs water and nutrients through its leaves. It has slender, grey-green leaves that grow in long, thread-like stands. It produces small, inconspicuous flowers that are usually pale green or blue.

Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in the morning or late afternoon. Prolonged exposure to intense midday sun can cause it to dry out.

Water Requirement
Submersion: Submerge the air plant in a bowl of room temperature water for 20-30 minutes. Afterward, shake the air plant gently to remove excess water. Misting: Mist the air plant daily.

Temperature
Ideal growing temperatures are between 10℃ to 32℃. Keep it away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

High humidity is ideal.

Fertilizer
Fertilisation is not typically necessary. Air plants can obtain some nutrients from the air, but can fertilise them with liquid fertiliser once every 2-4 weeks.

Ensure it is placed where it can receive adequate air circulation to prevent moisture buildup and potential rot. Trim any dead or discoloured strands to maintain a healthy appearance.
