Dipteracanthus elastica, commonly known as the Bubble Plant, is a member of the Acanthaceae family. This low-growing, ground-cover plant is appreciated for its dense foliage and delicate, attractive flowers. It is often used in gardens as a spreading ground cover or in containers due to its easy care and aesthetic appeal.

The leaves are small, green, and oval-shaped, with a slightly glossy texture. They grow densely, giving the plant a lush appearance. The leaves are arranged oppositely along the stems. The plant produces small, tubular flowers, typically in shades of violet, purple, or blue. The flowers are delicate and bloom intermittently throughout the growing season, adding a soft, colorful touch to the plant.

Fresh-Cut Flower Care Tips

Here are some simple tips to help keep fresh cut flowers fresh:

  • Keep them away from sunlight or any heat source.
  • Give the stems a diagonal trim and place them in clean, cool water. 
  • Change the water every 2-3 days.
  • Make sure you remove any leaves that are beneath the water line.

Dried/Preserved Flower Care Tips

  • IMPORTANT: Dried flowers DO NOT NEED WATER.
  • Always display dried flowers indoors, to keep them protected from the elements.
  • Keep your dried flowers away from direct sunlight, areas of bright light and away from humidity.
  • Sprinkling water or perfume can cause damage
  • Avoid crushing, pressing or folding flower.
  • If the preserved flower is stained by the dust, you can clean the preserved flower with the blower blowing softly 20cm away from the flower.
  • Temperature changes should be avoided to prevent humidity which could affect your blossoms.

Plant Care Guide for Dipteracanthus Elastica《黑美人》

  • Light

    Thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate partial shade. In regions with very hot weather, it benefits from some afternoon shade to prevent leaf scorching.

  • Soil

    Prefers well-draining growing medium rich in organic matter.

  • Water Requirement

    Prefers consistently moist soil, but it should not be waterlogged. Water the plant regularly, especially during dry periods.

  • Temperature

    Ideal growing temperatures are between 18℃ to 29℃. It can tolerate occasional dips in temperature but should be protected from drafts and sudden cold.

  • Humidity

    As a plant native to tropical regions, it benefits from higher humidity levels.

  • Fertilizer

    Fertilise lightly during the growing season.

  • Caution

    To maintain its compact shape and prevent legginess, pinch back the tips of the stems periodically. Regular pruning also encourages denser growth and helps the plant maintain its attractive, ground-covering habit.
