Ficus microcarpa is commonly known as the Chinese banyan, Indian laurel or curtain fig. It is often used as a bonsai specimen due to its ability to be shaped and pruned into various forms. The leaves are small, glossy, rich green in colour and grow densely on the branches. Ficus microcarpa is knowns for its thick, gnarled trunk and extensive aerial roots which give it a distinctive ancient look.
