Calathea roseopicta 'Marion' is a visually striking variety of the Calathea genus, known for its large, round leaves that are beautifully patterned with a bold mix of colors. The leaves have a rich green base color with a broad, dark green margin. The center of the leaf features a dramatic splash of pale silver or creamy white, often bordered by a pinkish-red or rosy hue that adds a vibrant contrast. The interplay of these colors creates a dynamic and eye-catching pattern, making the 'Marion' cultivar stand out among other houseplants.

Like other Calathea species, Calathea roseopicta 'Marion' exhibits nyctinasty, meaning its leaves move in response to the light cycle. The leaves fold upwards at night and open again in the morning, adding a dynamic and lively element to its presence in a room.

  • Light

Thrives in bright indirect sunlight to partial sunlight. It can tolerate lower light conditions but may experience slower growth and less vibrant leaf colors. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause the leaves to scorch and lose their distinctive patterns.

  • Soil

Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix with added perlite or sand to improve aeration.

  • Water Requirement

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use room-temperature water to avoid shocking the plant. Calathea plants are sensitive to chemicals in tap water, so using filtered or distilled water is recommended.

  • Temperature

Ideal growing temperatures are between 18℃ to 27℃. Keep it away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

  • Humidity

High humidity is essential for Calathea. Aim for a humidity level of 60% or higher. Dry air can cause the leaf edges to brown and curl.

  • Fertilizer

Fertilize lightly during growing season. Fertilise every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season.

  • Caution

Regularly remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to maintain the plant’s appearance. Pruning is generally minimal, as Calathea does not grow very large.
