Fittonia, commonly known as the nerve plant or mosaic plant, is a small, tropical plant in the Acanthaceae family. This plant native to the rainforests of South America, particularly Peru. Fittonia is a low-growing, spreading plant, typically reaching about 3-6 inches in height, making it perfect as a tabletop or terrarium plant. Its leaves are its standout feature, with vibrant, net-like veins in white, pink, or red, set against a green leaf background. These veins create an intricate, almost artistic look that makes Fittonia highly decorative.

Unwrap & Prepare: Remove all packaging and allow the flowers to breathe. Keep them away from direct sunlight and heat.

Trim the Stems: Cut 1–2 cm off the stems at a 45° angle using clean scissors or a knife. This helps the flowers absorb water better.

Use Clean Water & Flower Food: Place flowers in a clean vase filled with fresh water. If flower food is provided, mix it according to the instructions. You can also purchase flower food to help your flowers last longer.

Change Water Regularly: Replace the water every 1–2 days. Rinse the vase and re-trim the stems each time to keep bacteria away.

Remove Wilted Parts: Remove any leaves below the waterline and discard wilted petals or flowers to maintain freshness.

Choose the Right Spot: Keep flowers in a cool, shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight, fans, air-conditioning vents, and ripening fruits.

Refresh When Needed: If flowers start to droop, re-trim the stems and change the water to revive them.

Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but it can tolerate low-light conditions, making it suitable for indoor spaces. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch its leaves.

Water Requirement: Keep the soil/growing medium consistently moist but is sensitive to overwatering. Let the top inch of soil dry out between waterings, and avoid letting it dry out completely, as Fittonia is prone to wilting.

Temperature: Ideal growing temperatures are between 18℃ to 27℃. Kept it away from drafts or sudden temperature changes.

Humidity: This plant thrives in high humidity, making it perfect for bathrooms or areas where a humidifier is used. If the air is too dry, the leaves may curl or brown at the edges.

Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every month during the growing season to encourage lush growth.

Caution: Pruning encourages the plant to branch out, making it look fuller and preventing it from becoming leggy. You can pinch back the tips of the stems to promote more side growth. Regularly trim away any dead, yellowing, or damaged leaves to keep the plant tidy.
