Sophora prostrata, also known as dwarf kōwhai, is a small, evergreen shrub native to New Zealand. Belonging to the Fabaceae (pea) family, it is prized for its vibrant yellow flowers and compact growth. The plant features small, pinnate leaves that are dark green on the top and pale underneath, with a slightly leathery texture. In spring, it produces bright yellow, tubular flowers that resemble the iconic kōwhai flower, a symbol of New Zealand’s national flora. These flowers attract pollinators such as bees and birds.

Light
Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight or dappled sunlight. While it can tolerate partial shade, it still needs access to enough sunlight to encourage flowering.
Soil
