Crassula ovata, commonly known as Jade Plant or Money Plant, is a popular succulent houseplant known for its thick, fleshy leaves and tree-like growth habit. Native to South Africa, this plant is prized for its resilience and is often associated with good luck and prosperity.

The leaves are thick, fleshy, and oval-shaped, with a shiny, jade-green color. Some varieties develop a red or pink tinge along the edges when exposed to bright sunlight. The plant has thick, woody stems that give it a tree-like appearance as it matures. Younger stems are green, but they become brown and woody as the plant ages.

Trim the Stems: Cut 1–2 cm off the stems at a 45° angle using clean scissors or a knife. This helps the flowers absorb water better.

Use Clean Water & Flower Food: Place flowers in a clean vase filled with fresh water. If flower food is provided, mix it according to the instructions. You can also purchase flower food to help your flowers last longer.

Change Water Regularly: Replace the water every 1–2 days. Rinse the vase and re-trim the stems each time to keep bacteria away.

Remove Wilted Parts: Remove any leaves below the waterline and discard wilted petals or flowers to maintain freshness.

Choose the Right Spot: Keep flowers in a cool, shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight, fans, air-conditioning vents, and ripening fruits.

Refresh When Needed: If flowers start to droop, re-trim the stems and change the water to revive them.

Humidity: Does well in typical indoor humidity levels and are not particular about humidity. Avoid placing them in overly humid environments, as this can encourage fungal issues.

Fertiliser: Fertilise lightly during the growing season.

Caution: Jade plants can be pruned to maintain their shape and encourage bushier growth. Trim back leggy stems or branches that grow too tall. Pruning can also help prevent the plant from becoming top-heavy. Overwatering is the primary cause of problems with jade plants.
