Venus flytrap is one of the most famous carnivorous plants, knowns for its unique and fascinating mechanism of trapping and digesting insects. The trap is typically green but may have red coloration on the inside, depending on light exposure. It consists of two lobes hinged together, with bristle-like teeth along the edges. When an insect touches the sensitive hairs inside the loves, the trap snaps shut, trapping the insects. The plant then secrets digestive enzymes to break down and absorb nutrients from its prey.

Trim the Stems: Cut 1–2 cm off the stems at a 45° angle using clean scissors or a knife. This helps the flowers absorb water better.

Use Clean Water & Flower Food: Place flowers in a clean vase filled with fresh water. If flower food is provided, mix it according to the instructions. You can also purchase flower food to help your flowers last longer.

Change Water Regularly: Replace the water every 1–2 days. Rinse the vase and re-trim the stems each time to keep bacteria away.

Remove Wilted Parts: Remove any leaves below the waterline and discard wilted petals or flowers to maintain freshness.

Choose the Right Spot: Keep flowers in a cool, shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight, fans, air-conditioning vents, and ripening fruits.

Refresh When Needed: If flowers start to droop, re-trim the stems and change the water to revive them.

Light: Do best in bright indirect sunlight. Receives 4-6 hours of sunlight each day. Insufficient light will result in weak growth and poor coloration.

Soil: Well-draining soil.

Water Requirement: Water when the soil is slightly dry. Do not let it dry out at all. Distilled water, rainwater or reverse osmosis water are the best.

Temperature: Prefer temperature between 21-35 °C.

Humidity: Loves high humidity, ideally above 50%. Humid keeps the tips from becoming crispy.

Fertiliser: No specific fertiliser needed. All the nutrients come from their ability to trap pray within the traps. Avoid feeding meat or processed food.

Caution: Venus Flytraps are generally pest-resistant but can occasionally suffer from aphids, spider mites, or fungal infections. Treat pests with insecticidal soap and improve air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
