Phalaenopsis (moth orchid) is one of the most popular orchids among indoor plant enthusiasts. It is known for their stunning and long-lasting flowers and relatively easy to care for. Phalaenopsis orchids have broad, flat, leathery dark green leaves. The flowers resemble moths and come in various colours, which can last for several months. The roots are thick and silvery-green, adapted to absorb moisture and nutrients from the air in their natural epiphytic habitat.

Post care after bloom:
-    You can leave the flower spike intact, cut it back to a node or remove it entirely.
-    Remove the spike entirely will direct the plant’s energy toward the root development and increased chances for new bloom spikes.
-    Force phalaenopsis into bloom by moving them to an area where the night temperature is slightly lower (About 18°C) or hang on a tree /hang it up.
-    Make sure the spot receives bright indirect sunlight during the day.
-    Once a bloom spike appears, return the phalaenopsis to its normal setting.
-    Feed the phalaenopsis with liquid fertilizer every week.

  • Soil

Well-draining orchid potting mix, typically made of bark, sphagnum moss or combination of both.

  • Water Requirement

Water when the potting medium is nearly dry. Watering usually once a week, but frequency can vary depending on the environment. Avoid getting water on the leaves and crown, which can lead to crown rot.

Prefers high humidity levels, ideally between 50-70%.

  • Fertilizer

Use a water-soluble fertiliser every 1-2 weeks during vegetative phase, but not during the flowering phase.

  • Caution

After the flowers fade, cut the flower spike back to just above a node (a small bump on the stem) to encourage second bloom. Good circulation to prevent root rot and fungal infections.
